UFC 204 ratings: ‘Prelims’ on FOX Sports 1 return lowest number of 2016
It’s been a rough year for Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the world’s preeminent mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion, at least when it comes to ratings on FOX Sports 1.
The UFC 204 preliminary card was no exception, pulling 678,000 viewers — the lowest of the year — ahead of the “Bisping vs. Henderson 2” pay-per-view (PPV) event last Saturday night (Oct. 8, 2016) inside Manchester Arena in Manchester, England.
The UFC 204 “Prelims” rating was 39 percent below the 2016 average of 1,108,000 viewers and faced stiff competition from college football on a host of sports networks, as well as MLB playoffs on CBS.
The previous low for 2016 was 796,000 viewers ahead of UFC 198 back in May.
While the FOX Sports 1 telecast featured four exciting fights, each ending with a knockout or submission finish, the lack of star power likely kept casual fans from tuning in.
