Despite losing, Eddie Alvarez didn’t hesitate to give Conor McGregor his props after UFC 205.
For Eddie Alvarez, UFC 205 was a disaster. The Philadelphia-based fighter lost his lightweight title to now two-division champion, Conor McGregor in the main event after he admitted to abandoning his wrestling-heavy gameplan.
Alvarez was repeatedly dropped early on and was eventually finished by a perfect four-punch combination in the second round.
Despite the loss, however, Alvarez was quick to give ‘The Notorious’ credit and said what he did on the night was ‘incredible’.
“It’s incredible,” Alvarez said at a post-fight media scrum. “My hat’s off to him. He did a phenomenal job and he continues to do a good job for the sport of MMA.”
McGregor is now the UFC’s first and only simultaneous two-division champion. The Irishman now holds both the featherweight and lightweight titles and could even look to become a three-division champ by pursuing the welterweight throne.
For Alvarez, it’s back to the drawing board. The former UFC and Bellator lightweight champion will look to assess where things went wrong and begin to reclimb the championship ladder.
