Check out BloodyElbow.com’s recap of the UFC 207 main event between Amanda Nunes and Ronda Rousey.
Just like that, Ronda Rousey’s return is over. It took the UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes a brief 48 seconds to get a standing TKO victory over MMA pioneer Ronda Rousey. Nunes came out and let the leather fly, rarely missing her mark. Rousey had zero answers for the punches of Nunes and was even eating knuckles when she attempted to clinch. Referee Herb Dean had no choice but to step in and rescue Ronda Rousey.
This dominant performance from Nunes was her 6th- 1st round finish inside of the UFC promotion. It should be noted that Amanda Nunes is the first women’s bantamweight champion to successfully defend the belt since Ronda Rousey lost her title in November of 2015.
What was the highlight of the fight?
The entire 48 second fight was a highlight for Amanda Nunes. A boat load of unanswered punches routinely landed to the face of Ronda Rousey before the referee mercifully stepped in.
Where do these two go from here?
Ronda Rousey will likely call it a career following back to back KO losses. Rousey has opportunities outside of the cage that could potentially keep her busy. Ronda Rousey will go down as one of the most impactful MMA fighters of all time, and will forever be argued as one of the greatest women’s bantamweights of all time.
Amanda Nunes is the undisputed queen of the bantamweight hill, and with a near flawless victory over Ronda Rousey, look for Amanda Nunes to make a quick turn around. Waiting in the bantamweight mist are challengers Valentina Shevchenko who is currently ranked #2, and Julianna Pena who is ranked #3. It should be noted that Amanda Nunes already owns a unanimous decision victory over Shevchenko. The world is Nunes’ oyster.
