Before Stipe Miocic defends his Heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 211 next weekend (Sat., May 13, 2017) inside American Airlines Center, let’s take a trip back down memory lane to see Stipe’s first-ever title defense.
In September of last year, Miocic took on striking specialist Alistair Overeem in the main event of UFC 203 in Cleveland, Ohio. After getting rocked on more than one occasion in the bout and surviving a submission attempt, Miocic bounced back to knockout out the former K-1 champion in the very first round.
What resulted afterward was a bizarre interview from “The Reem,” who claimed that Stipe had actually tapped earlier in the fight. Perhaps, Alistair was still trying to shake off the cobwebs.
Furthermore, Miocic went on a rant a few days later after realizing that Overeem — the challenger — had banked $200,000 more than him for the championship fight. But, it seems all of those issues are taken care of ahead of Stipe’s rematch against Junior dos Santos, which has all the makings of another barn-burner.
