Before Jose Aldo and Max Holloway get it on at UFC 212 on June 3, 2017 in a Featherweight title unification match in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, let’s take a trip back memory lane to see on of Aldo’s many title defenses.
In October of 2014, Aldo took on Chad Mendes for the second time after previously knocking him out in the very first round, also in Rio. This time around, however, the two engaged in a thrilling back-and-forth brawl that went the entire five rounds.
In the end, however, Aldo proved victorious once again, earning a unanimous decision victory after 25 minutes of intense action. A year later, Aldo suffered his first loss in over a decade to Conor McGregor.
After he was awarded the interim title with a win over Frankie Edgar at UFC 200, Jose became the official champion a few months later after Conor won the UFC’s Lightweight strap and was forced to relinquish the 145 pound strap.
Now, Jose will look to unify the straps as he faces Max Holloway, who is on one of the longest current winning streaks inside the Octagon, winning 10 in a row since losing to the aforementioned McGregor back in 2013.
