Live, blow-by-blow updates for today’s UFC 222 preliminary card from Vegas, which is highlighted by a big strawweight debut in the featured undercard fight.

Join us today on Bloody Elbow for live results, discussion, round scoring, and play-by-play as UFC 222 goes down in Vegas.

After the original main event featuring a bout between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar was scratched, the UFC hastily put together a women’s featherweight title fight between Cris Cyborg and Invicta bantamweight champ Yana Kunitskaya for the headliner. In the co-main, Edgar will meet late replacement Brian Ortega.

This post will cover the preliminary card. The featured prelim bout takes place in the women’s strawweight division, with the debuting Mackenzie Dern meeting Ashley Yoder. Live results and play-by-play will commence with the Fight Pass broadcast at 6:30pm ET/3:30pm PT for three fights. Then things move to FS1 at 8pm ET/5pm PT for four fights. The full lineup and schedule follows. The main card will be covered in a separate post.

Ashley Yoder vs. Mackenzie Dern

Round 1

Beneil Dariush vs. Alexander Hernandez

Round 1 – Hernandez went in for the tap and kicked him in the belly. Yikes, that’s not cool. Dariush lands a left. Leg kick from Dariush. Hernandez lands a perfect left and DARIUSH IS OUT! WOW!

John Dodson vs. Pedro Munhoz

Round 1 – Outside leg kick from Dodson. He catches a kick and lands one of his own. Dodson lands to the body. Knee from Munhoz. Dodson goes to the body again. He’s slapping him with a right hand and throwing a right kick at the same time. He catches a Munhoz kick and throws him to the ground, but lets him up. Hard inside leg kick from Munhoz. Dodson circles and lands a nice left. Step-in knee to the belly from Dodson. Body kick from Munhoz. 10-9 Dodson.

Round 2 – Dodson with a nice combo. Dodson catches a kick and lands a left. Dodson goes body/head. Dodson is much faster. He gets in, digs the body, them pops him in the face on the way out. Munhoz whiffs with a head kick. Dodson with a counter uppercut. Munhoz lands a right. He got some blood out of Dodson’s nose, and lands a kick to the body. Munhoz with a hard overhand right. He’s bringing pressure. Head kick from Munhoz. Dodson caught a kick but still eats a punch. Dodson tried to use the cage to jump off and attack but got nailed with a push kick right in the cup. 10-9 Dodson.

Round 3 – Munhoz charges forward with strikes. Dodson claims another groin strike. The ref steps in. It’s hard to tell if that landed to the cup on the replay. Dodson with a knee to the body on the restart. Nice left as well. Munhoz with an inside leg kick. Combo from Dodson. More lefts from Dodson. Munhoz with a solid right. Jab too. Dodson scores with the left again. Jump knee from Munhoz. Dodson catches another kick. Left from Munhoz, but uppercut from Dodson. Munhoz looking for a takedown, and he gets Dodson to this butt. Knees to the legs from Munhoz. Dodson up and Munhoz nailed him Dodson fired right back. 10-9 and 30-27 Dodson.

C.B. Dollaway vs. Hector Lombard

Round 1 – Dollaway whiffs on a head kick. Leg kick from Lombard. Body kick from Dollaway. Straight left from Clarence. Another body kick from Dollaway, Lombard fired back with a right. Another body kick and a counter right. Lombard with a low kick. Lombard lands two lefts. Body shot from Dollaway. Inside leg kick from Lombard. Another body kick from Dollaway. Jab from Dollaway. They trade in the pocket. WHOA Lombard appeared to land after the horn and Dollaway is down! I was going to go 10-9 Dollaway but if that punch was legal, then it’s Lombard’s round. Aaaand that was illegal. Dollaway is still hurt after a minute. He doesn’t know what happened. It should be a DQ.

The fight is over. Dollaway is still out on his feet.

Mike Pyle vs. Zak Ottow

Round 1 – Ottow with a combo. He throws a spin kick to the belly. Pyle isn’t throwing much of anything. A couple of legs kicks. Ottow lands a leg kick himself. Ottow throwing big shots but missing. Right as I saw that, Ottow drops Pyle with a right hook. Pyle trying to hold on to him on the ground. Ottow landing big shots and it’s over.

Bryan Caraway vs. Cody Stamann

Round 1 – Slow start, lots of feinting. Caraway grabs a leg, but Stamann fights him off. Caraway still grinding. Stamann rams his head into the cage, then lands a left hook on the break. Stamann with a leg kick and a left. Caraway with a nice entry to a double leg again but Stamann defends well. Caraway with a short left in the clinch. Stamann stuffs another shot and they fight in close. Caraway with a jab. Another. Caraway finally gets Stamann down. He’s working from half. Caraway scrambling around trying to pass. Good battle. Caraway passes to side and then steps a leg over to trap the head. That’s very unique. It’s almost an inverted triangle. Now he’s attacking a kimura. 10-9 Caraway.

Round 2 – Stamann with a left hook. Caraway goes back to the jab. Stamann lands two hard shots. He stuffs a Caraway takedown attempt. Caraway with a right hook. And another. Uppercut from Caraway. Stamann with a leg kick and a nice combo. Solid right from Stamann. Jab and counter jab from Stamann. Stamann stuffs another takedown attempt and lands a knee on the way out. Caraway with a lead left hook. Caraway rebuffed on another takedown attempt. Stamann with two hard rights. Stamann emphatically stuffs two more takedowns and lands knees. 10-9 Stamann.

Round 3 – Stamann with a head kick. They both land big shots. Stamann with a jab and an inside leg kick. Caraway can’t get a takedown. He finally got a single leg. Stamann fought that off too. Halfway through the round. Caraway with a right. Stamann just walks away from a Caraway shot that time. He lands a counter right when they engage again. Two jabs from Caraway, and a nice combo. Leg kick from Stamann. Stamann with a right. They trade big shots, and they’re brawling a bit. Knee to the body from Stamann, and again. They’re both chucking knuckles in close. Hard kneee from Stamann. Stamann finally went for a late takedown and got stuck in a guillotine! The horn went quickly though. I’ll go 10-9 and 29-28 Caraway.

Jordan Johnson vs. Adam Milstead

Round 1 – Johnson lands to the body. Milstead throwing some wild punches. He lands a right over the top. Johnson looks to clinch but can’t get a hold of him. Jabs from Milstead, and another right. A counter and a lead right hook connect for the former heavyweight. Milstead stuffs a takedown attempt. Johnson secures a single, then a body lock. Milstead stays up but they’re in the clinch. Milstead lands an elbow and Johnson retreats. Another right lands. Counter uppercut from Milstead. 10-9 Milstead.

Round 2 – Johnson goes to the body. Milstead with a jab. Milstead trips coming in and Johnson lands a shot. They clinch. Johnson looking for a takedown but can’t get anything. Milstead lands a right. Johnson is punching to the body and legs, but the ref decided to separate them. Milstead lands a right, but Johnson ties him up again. He gets Milstead down to one knee. Milstead gets back up and they stall out. The ref separates them again, but he’s still working. Weird. 10-9 Johnson.

Round 3 – Body shot from Johnson. Leg kick from Johnson but Milstead cracks him with a right. Jab from Johnson. Another wild right from Milstead. Johnson with a counter left. Johnson clinches again. Milstead pushes him away fast though. Inside leg kick from Milstead. They trade jabs twice. Milstead with a quick left. Johnson in on a single. He dumps Milstead to the mat, but he can’t get him past a seated position. Milstead gets back up but Johnson holds him in the clinch. Milstead with two rights on a bent over Johnson. Milstead circles out and closes with a big flurry. 10-9 and 29-28 Milstead.
