Check out the closing betting odds for tonight’s UFC 235 card, where Jon Jones is heavily favored to retain his light heavyweight title over Anthony Smith.
It’s fight day! UFC 235 goes down tonight, March 2, from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bloody Elbow is here to provide the betting odds.
The UFC’s current light heavyweight champ Jon Jones is astronomically favored with a moneyline of -845 to get past the +665 underdog Anthony Smith. As of the midweek betting odds post, we learned that Jones was a -800 betting favorite and Smith was +550 underdog, and since then, only more money has come in for the polarizing champ.
The over/under for this 205-pound title fight has been set at 1.5 rounds. Earlier in the week, both prop bets sat with a moneyline of -115, but now it’s the ‘over’ that is the lone favorite at -155, with the ‘under’ now in underdog territory at +140. The betting odds still do not see this bout lasting the full 25-minutes, but the ‘going the distance’ prop bet has closed up a bit. ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ has whittled down from a wildly favored line of -900 to a slightly less absurd -725. ‘Fight goes to decision’ has dropped from an underdog line of +540 down to the +470 mark.
The defending champ remains the fighter that is heavily favored to end this one early. ‘Jones wins inside distance’ has shifted from-410 out a bit further to -435. For those that are feeling Smith in a finishing upset, ‘Smith wins inside distance’ has gone from a dog tag of +680 to a hearty line of +847. Going from a favored line of -115 to a mark of -131, ‘Jones wins by TKO/KO’ can be acquired for those that think the champ will stop Smith with strikes. By comparison, ‘Smith wins by TKO/KO’ has moved from an astronomical underdog line of +930, to poppycock value of +1285.
The UFC welterweight title is on the line in the co-main event, and the defending champ Tyron Woodley has pulled away just a tad as the betting favorite over the challenging underdog Kamaru Usman. Woodley has shifted slightly from a favored line of -145 to his current mark of -155. On the flip-side, Usman has gone from a +125 line up to a value of +145.
The over/under for this 170-pound title match has been assessed at 4.5 rounds. Earlier in the week, both the ‘over’ and the ‘under’ possessed favored lines, with the ‘over’ being more favored at -120, and the ‘under’ being less favored at -110. Now, the ’under’ is the stand alone favorite at -117, with the ‘over’ now owning an underdog line of +102.
Also starting out the week with two-negative lines, the prop bet regarding whether or not this matchup will last the complete duration of five-rounds has seen a change. ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ was the more favored line at -125, and is now a standalone favorite at -140. ‘Fight goes to decision’ has moved from a -105 mark to an underdog spot of +110.
Also on the main card, the undefeated “Funky” Ben Askren makes his UFC debut as a -250 betting favorite to former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. The +230 Lawler is making his return to action following a lopsided decision loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on FOX 26 back in December of 2017.
The bookies believe this welterweight tilt will be seeing all scheduled 15-minutes. At -225, ‘Fight goes to decision’ is strongly favored, with ‘Fight doesn’t go to decision’ sitting in the underdog slot at +175. Askren is the one favored to get the nod on the scorecards here. ‘Askren wins by decision’ owns a favored line of -147, with ‘Lawler wins by decision’ marked at a massive +650. Lawler is more than capable of dispatching virtually anyone with his striking. ‘Lawler wins by TKO/KO’ clocks in at +385, with ‘Askren wins by TKO/KO’ registering at +1010.
The UFC 235 main card will air live on Pay-Per-View at 10:00 P.M. ET with the prelims starting at 8:00 P.M. ET on ESPN. The exclusive Fight Pass prelims will begin at 6:30 P.M. ET.
