Interim titles are all the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) rage lately, and two more will be granted at UFC 236 inside State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Ga., this Saturday evening (April 13, 2019). UFC 236’s pay-per-view (PPV) main card will see Max Holloway rematch Dustin Poirier for the interim Lightweight belt and Kelvin Gastelum square off with kickboxing great Israel Adesanya for the interim Middleweight strap. The main card will also see two battles between Light Heavyweight knockout artists and the return of Alan Jouban opposite Dwight Grant.

Let’s see what we can’t wring out of this:

What Went Wrong at UFC on ESPN 2?

I’ll admit that some questionable judging was needed to bail out Kevin Holland from his own terrible decisions, but Alex Perez and Kevin Aguilar came up big as expected. A win’s a win.

UFC 236 Odds For The Undercard:

Jalin Turner (-120) vs. Matt Frevola (EVEN)
Alexandre Pantoja (-150) vs. Wilson Reis (+130)
Zelim Imadaev (-120) vs. Max Griffin (EVEN)
Boston Salmon (-130) vs. Khalid Taha (+110)
Belal Muhammad (-145) vs. Curtis Millender (+125)
Montel Jackson (-525) vs. Andre Soukhamthath (+415)
Poliana Botelho (-170) vs. Lauren Mueller (+150)
Brandon Davis (-165) vs. Randy Costa (+145)

Thoughts: Jalin Turner and Belal Muhammad have some juicy style match ups — and even though Muhammad isn’t the crazy bargain he was when he opened at +135 — I still like the line.

Matt Frevola is a defensively-lacking bruiser who gets by on sheer toughness and some decent wrestling. Turner is a brutal knockout artist with six inches of height and six inches of reach on Frevola, who was stopped in one minute in his Octagon debut and barely survived Lando Vannata’s punches in his most recent effort. Turner is perfectly equipped to pummel the snot out of him on the feet, and I don’t see this lasting very long.

Muhammad is extremely durable, has shown that he can hold his own against taller strikers, and has some solid wrestling chops. That’s really all he needs against Millender, who was taken down by a gassed Siyar Bahadurzada and a man in Elizeu Zaleski who, though awesome, boasts one of the worst takedown accuracies in UFC. I find it unlikely that Millender maintains range all night or manages to crack Muhammad on the way in before getting manhandled and ultimately dominated on the mat.

UFC 236 Odds For The Main Card:

Max Holloway (-220) vs. Dustin Poirier (+180)
Israel Adesanya (-175) vs. Kelvin Gastelum (+155)
Eryk Anders (-190) vs. Khalil Rountree Jr. (+165)
Alan Jouban (-115) vs. Dwight Grant (-105)
Nikita Krylov (-115) vs. Ovince St. Preux (-105)

Thoughts: These are all extremely close match ups that feature at least one knockout puncher apiece. I say leave ‘em alone.

UFC 236 Best Bets:

  • Single bet — Jalin Turner: Bet $60 to make $50
  • Single bet — Belal Muhammad: Bet $60 to make $41.37

Even with a substandard supporting cast, UFC 236’s title fights alone are worth the price of admission. See you Saturday, Maniacs!
