In 2013, Max Holloway lost to Conor McGregor at UFC Fight Night 126 via unanimous decision. Nearly five and a half years later, and “Blessed” hasn’t tasted defeat since, racking up a ridiculous 13-fight win streak which includes back-to-back wins against former Featherweight champion Jose Aldo and notable victories against the best 145-pounders in the game today.
During that span, Max won the division title and has defended it twice. And while he has had a few setbacks health-wise (see them here and here), the Hawaiian-born champion is one of the hottest fighters in the game today.
As he gears up to add to his legacy by attempting to become the next UFC champ-champ with a win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 236 on Saturday (April 13, 2019) for the interim Lightweight title, Holloway breaks down his path to the top.
In UFC’s “Path of Ascension, Holloway breaks down some of his favorite moments during his stellar run, including wins over Cub Swanson, his first taste of UFC gold after beating Anthony Pettis, and his first win over Aldo.
With a victory over Poirier in Atlanta, GA., Holloway sets himself up for a big-money showdown against Khabib Nurmagomedov. If he can take down “The Diamond” and “The Eagle” in consecutive bouts, Max will be able to write his own ticket for the rest of his career and put him at the top of the pound-for-pound list.
