Get a detailed breakdown of the betting lines for UFC 238, which is set to hit United Center in Chicago, Ill., this weekend (Sat., June 8, 2019), including best bets, underdogs, favorites and much more!
Flyweight ruler Henry Cejudo will look to become the third-ever Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) simultaneous double champ this Saturday evening (June 8, 2019) when he takes on lethal finishing machine Marlon Moraes for the vacant Bantamweight strap in UFC 238’s pay-per-view (PPV) main event. Meanwhile, another title is up for grabs in the co-feature, which pits newly crowned women’s Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko against the resurgent Jessica Eye. Finally, a trio of slugfests round out the main card inside United Center in Chicago, Ill., as Donald Cerrone takes on Tony Ferguson in a dream Lightweight match up, Petr Yan looks to continue his inexorable rise against Jimmie Rivera, and Tai Tuivasa attempts to bounce back from his first-ever defeat against sambo standout Blagoy Ivanov.
UFC 238 has all the hallmarks of a card to remember; therefore, let’s see what we can squeeze out of it.
What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 153?
Alexander Gustafsson and Darko Stosic were both just minor adjustments away from victory. If Gustafsson hadn’t gone for a terrible hane goshi after seizing the momentum and if Stosic had actually bothered to capitalize on all the takedowns he stuffed in the third round, we’d be sitting pretty. As is, Frank Camacho’s career-best effort was wasted. Shame.
UFC 238 Odds For The Under Card:
Tatiana Suarez (-900) vs. Nina Ansaroff (+600)
Aljamain Sterling (-130) vs. Pedro Munhoz (+110)
Karolina Kowalkiewicz (-115) vs. Alexa Grasso (-105)
Calvin Kattar (-160) vs. Ricardo Lamas (+140)
Xiaonan Yan (-190) vs. Angela Hill (+165)
Bevon Lewis (-235) vs. Darren Stewart (+195)
Eddie Wineland (-135) vs. Grigory Popov (+115)
Joanne Calderwood (-110) vs. Katlyn Chookagian (-110)
Thoughts: I really like the look of Aljamain Sterling and, to a slightly lesser extent, Alexa Grasso. I’m assuming they’ll bring their “A” games.
A long-range striker with the presence of mind to stick to his gameplan is Munhoz’s worst nightmare. Sterling boasts a massive reach advantage and even Jimmie Rivera — who comfortably out-boxed Munhoz through most of their fight — struggled mightily to force the “Funk Master” into the pocket. So long as Sterling doesn’t shove his neck into Munhoz’s guillotine, he has the tools to potshot all night.
Grasso boasted positive odds for the last few weeks, but still remains a bargain. Kowalkiewicz is on a two-fight skid, is eight years older than Grasso, and will oblige the superior boxer on the feet. Admittedly, I’m basing this more on what Grasso should be able to do more than what she’s done in UFC, but what’s a night of gambling without risk?
UFC 238 Odds For The Main Card:
Marlon Moraes (-130) vs. Henry Cejudo (+110)
Valentina Shevchenko (-1375) vs. Jessica Eye (+900)
Tony Ferguson (-145) vs. Donald Cerrone (+125)
Petr Yan (-325) vs. Jimmie Rivera (+265)
Tai Tuivasa (-145) vs. Blagoy Ivanov (+125)
Thoughts: Three razor-thin match ups, one truly historic blowout, and one fight worth investing in. Petr Yan is your man, even as a heavy favorite.
Rivera thrives on the strength of his short-range boxing. Yan is exponentially scarier at Rivera’s preferred distance, boasting quite a bit more power and superior durability. Rivera and Yan will give each other the exact sort of fight they want, and “No Mercy” will not be out-classed in the pocket.
UFC 238 Best Bets:
- Single bet — Aljamain Sterling: Bet $70 to make $53.84
- Parlay — Alexa Grasso and Petr Yan: Bet $50 to make $77.50
UFC 238 offers violence in truly staggering quantities; therefore, turn off your empathy and enjoy one of the most stacked cards of 2019. See you Saturday, Maniacs.
