UFC 238 video recap: Cejudo rallies to stop Moraes in round three

In the main event of UFC 238, Henry Cejudo stopped Marlon Moraes in round three to become the new UFC bantamweight champion.

Henry Cejudo became the third UFC fighter to hold two belts simultaneously, as he defeated Marlon Moraes by third round TKO to win the vacant UFC bantamweight title.

What was the high point of the fight?

Moraes came out in the first round extremely fast, owning the speed department by throwing lighting fast leg kicks and putting together quick combinations. Cejudo struggled to land anything notable until the end of round two, when he started landing big knees and right hands.

The comeback was now on for Cejudo at the start of round three, and once he secured a takedown the end started to look near for Moraes. After almost wrapping up a choke, some ground and pound from Cejudo went unanswered by Moraes, and after enough punishment referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight.

Where do these two go from here?

It’s a massive accomplishment for Cejudo, as he now becomes just the third fighter in UFC history after Conor McGregor and Daniel Cormier to hold two belts simultaneously in separate divisions. Ultimately, the ball is in Cejudo’s court for what he wants to do next, but he did say in his post-fight interview he wants to go up and challenge for the featherweight belt.

Despite the loss, Moraes is still a clear top contender at bantamweight. He probably won’t get a rematch next and will have to work his way back up to 135-pound gold. If by any chance Aljamain Sterling, who defeated Pedro Munhoz earlier at UFC 238, doesn’t get the next title shot, then perhaps a rematch with Sterling is possible for Marlon.
