Valentina Shevchenko knocked out Jessica Eye with a head kick in round two to defend her flyweight title at UFC 238.
In the co-main event of UFC 238, Valentina Shevchenko made the first defence of her flyweight title by knocking out Jessica Eye with a head kick in round two.
What was the high point of the fight?
Shevchenko was dominant from the moment the fight started, dominating Eye from the ground when she secured a body-lock takedown early on. “Bullet” reigned down strikes from the crucifix position and she almost wrapped up a kimura at the end of round one.
As the second round began, both women met in the middle of the octagon and Shevchenko unleashed a massive head kick that knocked Eye out cold.
Where do these two go from here?
With the depth of women’s flyweight being shallow, there is a lack of legitimate contenders to next challenge Shevchenko. It’s obvious Shevchenko is leaps and bounds above the rest of the division, but other than Katlyn Chookagian, who won earlier against Joanne Calderwood at UFC 238, no-one else stands out next for a title shot.
The loss for Eye snaps her three-fight winning streak, and although two of those wins were split decisions Eye was looking like a new and improved fighter at 125-pounds after suffering four straight losses at women’s bantamweight. A fight with Calderwood is a good one to make next for ‘Evil’ Eye.
Watch it now, later or never?
