Get a detailed breakdown of the betting lines for UFC 239, which is set to hit T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, this weekend (Sat., July 6, 2019), including best bets, underdogs, favorites and much more!
It’s Jackson-Wink vs. Brazil this Saturday (July 6, 2019) when Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the pay-per-view (PPV) airwaves from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Light Heavyweight emperor Jon Jones faces the hellacious power of Thiago Santos in UFC 239’s main event, while the co-feature sees Holly Holm attempt to play spoiler once again against surging “champ-champ” Amanda Nunes.
UFC 239’s PPV main card also features a pair of intriguing Welterweight tussles and the 205-pound debut of Luke Rockhold opposite iron-tough veteran Jan Blachowicz. It’s rather late, so do me a favor and just imagine I’ve come up with a clever segue into the numbers.
What Went Wrong at UFC on ESPN 3?
As it turns out, a fighter coming off of a three-year layoff may have improved during their time away. Who knew? Amanda Ribas’ wrestling proved far, far better than it had been before her UFC signing, allowing her to bring her Brazilian jiu-jitsu to bear and completely dominate Emily Whitmire. This undid Jared Gordon’s good work against Dan Moret, unfortunately, but at least it’s only a minor loss.
UFC 239 Odds For The Undercard:
Arnold Allen (-370) vs. Gilbert Melendez (+310)
Claudia Gadelha (-225) vs. Randa Markos (+185)
Marlon Vera (N/A) vs. Nohelin Hernandez (N/A)
Song Yadong (-240) vs. Alejandro Perez (+200)
Edmen Shahbazyan (-600) vs. Jack Marshman (+450)
Ismail Naurdiev (-500) vs. Chance Rencountre (+400)
Julia Avila (-240) vs. Pannie Kianzad (+200)
Thoughts: Well, that’s a lot of statistical mismatches to sift through, and they aren’t particularly safe mismatches to bet on. Gilbert Melendez hasn’t had a good performance in years, but can beat Arnold Allen if he gets his wrestling going. Randa Markos has a habit of overachieving. Alejandro Perez has preternatural luck with the judges. Jack Marshman has a hell of a punch. Chance Rencountre has a similar style to someone who’s beaten Ismail Naurdiev before.
Having said all of that, Julia Avila might be the only reasonable investment. “The Raging Panda” is an absolute beast going up against a late-notice opponent who’s struggled to make weight before. I believe Avila can make some noise at 135 pounds and ought to demonstrate that with a dominant victory.
UFC 239 Odds For The Main Card:
Jon Jones (-600) vs. Thiago Santos (+450)
Amanda Nunes (-340) vs. Holly Holm (+280)
Ben Askren (-245) vs. Jorge Masvidal (+205)
Luke Rockhold (-225) vs. Jan Blachowicz (+185)
Michael Chiesa (-335) vs. Diego Sanchez (+275)
Thoughts: Things aren’t much more competitive on the main card, but at least there’s a solid anchor in Michael Chiesa.
Diego Sanchez’s two-fight win streak doesn’t exactly herald a return to form. One of his victims, Craig White, can’t defend takedowns to save his life, while Mickey Gall was dead on his feet after the first round. Chiesa’s the naturally larger man, is every bit the wrestler “The Nightmare” is, and has exponentially less mileage. “The Maverick” ought to take this one comfortably.
If you have faith in Luke Rockhold’s ability to make his style work at 205 pounds, he could be worth a look as well. Blachowicz’s takedown defense has always been shaky, he’ll struggle to out-kick Rockhold at range, and Thiago Santos showed that the Pole can be caught coming in.
UFC 239 Best Bets:
- Parlay — Julia Avila and Michael Chiesa: Bet $60 to make $50.42
- Parlay — Michael Chiesa and Luke Rockhold: Bet $40 to make $35.08
UFC 239 isn’t super competitive on paper, but it figures to be a heck of a show. See you Saturday, Maniacs!
