Michael Chiesa won a decision over long-time UFC veteran Diego Sanchez on the UFC 239 PPV main card.
The opening act of the UFC 239 PPV main card saw Michael Chiesa dominate UFC Hall of Famer Diego Sanchez for three rounds. Chiesa has now claimed back to back legends in Diego Sanchez and Carlos Condit, and just might get an opponent in their prime his next time out.
Sanchez shot in right away to get the party started but Chiesa initiated a tricky scramble to quickly establish dominance. Chiesa owned a lot of the grappling exchanges, even working his way to the back. After a near rear-naked choke, Chiesa scored with some mean elbows, still on the back. Sanchez worked his way out of that bad position and back to his feet, but Chiesa put him back on the ground.
Chiesa took Sanchez back to the ground to start the second act. A bunch of ground strikes added up for Chiesa throughout, but Sanchez ate them kept moving. Chiesa had very little issue owning Sanchez with his grappling. Joe Rogan couldn’t stop commenting on how much larger Chiesa appeared in there than Sanchez. Chiesa’s dominance dripped into the third round. Sanchez did not have many answers for what Chiesa was trying to do.
Michael Chiesa def. Diego Sanchez by unanimous decision (30-26 x3): Welterweight
