Max Holloway retained his UFC featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Frankie Edgar.
Max Holloway successfully defended his UFC featherweight title by winning a one-sided unanimous decision over Frankie Edgar in the main event of UFC 240.
What was the high point of the fight?
Holloway found success in the first round by using uppercuts when Edgar would close the distance and attempt to shoot in for a takedown. Edgar pressured well early but struggled to close the distance and land any strikes. “Blessed” started to tee off in the third but Edgar survived the Hawaiian’s onslaught and landed his first takedown.
Edgar finished the fourth round with a bloody nose as Holloway landed another spinning back kick to the body. The takedowns just were not working for Edgar as Holloway remained in control throughout the fifth round and landed good combinations on a bloodied-up Edgar.
Where do these two go from here?
Holloway extended his impressive unbeaten run at featherweight with the title defence over Edgar. It’s obvious that the number one contender in the division, Alex Volkanovski, is next in line for Holloway. Nothing else makes sense next for Holloway.
A devastated Edgar spoke after the fight and said he will need to go back to the drawing board before he considers a drop in weight class to 135-pounds.
Watch it now, later or never?
By Holloway’s high standards, this wasn’t a thrilling bout, so you can watch it later.
