Get up to date with the co-main event of UFC 241 as Anthony Pettis takes on Nate Diaz.
In the co-main event of UFC 241, former lightweight champ Anthony Pettis will take on Nate Diaz, who makes his return to the cage after a three-year layoff. UFC 241: Cormier vs. Miocic 2 takes place live this Saturday night, August 17, from Anaheim, CA. The main card airs on PPV via ESPN+ starting with a fight time of 10:00 p.m. ET / 7:00 p.m. PT, with the ESPN prelims beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET and Fight Pass prelims kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET.
How do these two stack up?
Pettis: 32 years old | 5’10” | 72.5” reach
Diaz: 34 years old | 6’1” | 76” reach
What have these two done recently?
Pettis: W – Stephen Thompson (KO) | L- Tony Ferguson (SUB) | W – Michael Chiesa (SUB)
Diaz: L – Conor McGregor (MD) | W – Conor McGregor (SUB) | W – Michael Johnson (UD)
How did these two get here?
Many wrote Anthony Pettis off after his failed bid at featherweight gold when he lost to Max Holloway at UFC 206. However since, “Showtime” has looked like a rejuvenated fighter back at 155-pounds even in his losses to Dustin Poirier and Tony Ferguson. The 32-year-old made his welterweight debut in the UFC in his last fight against Stephen Thompson, doing what nobody has ever done to “Wonderboy” and knocking him out. If Pettis can keep up the good form at welterweight in this fight with Diaz, it’ll definitely be a good night for him.
He’s back. Three years after his last fight, Nate Diaz will finally return to the Octagon. His return didn’t seem likely, that was until this time last year when Diaz was booked to fight current interim lightweight champ Poirier at UFC 230. An injury forced Poirier out the fight, and questions again were raised about whether Diaz would ever fight in the UFC again. The Stockton native’s two fights vs. Conor McGregor took place at 170-pounds, and he will stay at that weight class when he fights Pettis on Saturday night.
Why should you care?
It’s Nate Diaz’s return to the octagon, that’s why.
