In the main event of UFC 241, Stipe Miocic won his UFC heavyweight title back by finishing Daniel Cormier in round four.
Stipe Miocic avenged his loss to Daniel Cormier and reclaimed his UFC heavyweight title by knocking out ‘DC’ in the fourth round at UFC 241.
What was the high point of the fight?
Starting off the fight with some good led kicks, Cormier secured his first takedown of the fight midway through the first-round when he dumped Miocic on his head. It started to get more scrappy in the second as both men were winging punches on the feet, walking forward with reckless abandon.
With the lack of respect ‘DC’ was showing for Miocic’s striking, the challenger began to land some good shots of his own, particularly to the body. At the end of the fourth round, Miocic landed a one-two that rocked Cormier, then he finished him off on the fence and with ground and pound.
Where do these two go from here?
The loss for Cormier is just his first ever at heavyweight. Given it was clear that ‘DC’ didn’t have many fights left in his UFC career, his future at the moment is unclear. Retirement, or trilogy fights with Jon Jones and Miocic are all options for Cormier next.
The win is undoubtedly the biggest of Miocic’s career as he reclaims the UFC heavyweight title he once held for so long. Depending on what Cormier does next, Miocic’s next title defender will probably be against top heavyweight contender Francis Ngannou.
Watch it now, later or never?
It was a fantastic heavyweight title fight, watch it now.
