MMA: UFC 229-Nurmagomedov vs McGregor

Get a detailed breakdown of the betting lines for UFC 241, which is set to hit Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., this weekend (Sat., Aug. 17, 2019), including best bets, underdogs, favorites and much more!

One of the year’s biggest fights hits The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, this Saturday afternoon (Sept. 7, 2019) when Khabib Nurmagomedov defends his Lightweight title against interim 155-pound champion, Dustin Poirier, in UFC 242’s pay-per-view (PPV) main event. The international card also includes Edson Barboza vs. Paul Felder in a rematch of a “Fight of the Night” and the return of Lightweight knockout machine Mairbek Taisumov against rising contender Diego Ferreira.

The desert oasis boasts plenty of casinos, but we’ll have to make do with the Internet. Here’s how:

What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 157?

Well, it doesn’t help when half of your parlay doesn’t end up fighting, but we still eked out a win. Despite Sumudaerji being much lot better than I remembered, Mizuki Inoue kept the picks afloat for a narrow profit.

UFC 242 Odds For The Undercard:

Andrea Lee (-225) vs. Joanne Calderwood (+185)
Zubaira Tukhugov (-465) vs. Lerone Murphy (+370)
Ottman Azaitar (-225) vs. Teemu Packalén (+185)
Belal Muhammad (-355) vs. Takashi Sato (+295)
Nordine Taleb (-120) vs. Muslim Salikhov (EVEN)
Omari Akhmedov (-120) vs. Zak Cummings (EVEN)
Don Madge (-190) vs. Fares Ziam (+165)

Thoughts: I like one long shot bet and one actually reasonable one: Lerone Murphy and Zak Cummings, respectively.

Murphy is a quality prospect going up against a guy in Zubaira Tukhugov who hasn’t fought in three years. Tukhugov also barely scraped past Philippe Nover two fights back, which isn’t a good look for anyone looking to claim “blue chip” status. I don’t like betting fights wherein one guy hasn’t fought in a while and Tukhugov is a legitimately good fighter, but the odds are so lopsided that a pittance on Murphy makes sense.

Omari Akhmedov is one of the most consistent fighters in UFC and I do not mean that as a compliment. Even after 10 fights in the Octagon, he gasses with clockwork regularity partway through the second round if his opponent makes him work. Cummings is a strong grappler in his own right and his left hand has enough one-shot power to crack Akhmedov’s chin. I say he empties Akhmedov’s tank and puts him away late, a possibility worth investing in at even odds.

UFC 242 Odds For The Main Card:

Khabib Nurmagomedov (-460) vs. Dustin Poirier (+365)
Edson Barboza (-155) vs. Paul Felder (+135)
Islam Makhachev (-325) vs. Davi Ramos (+265)
Curtis Blaydes (-485) vs. Shamil Abdurakhimov (+385)
Mairbek Taisumov (-265) vs. Diego Ferreira (+215)

Thoughts: Yeah, not seeing much value on the main card. Curtis Blaydes could be used to bulk up parlays, as Abdurakhimov is useless off of his back, but that’s not exactly a cutting insight considering that he’s the biggest favorite on the card. Eh, whatever works.

UFC 242 Best Bets:

  • Single bet — Lerone Murphy: Bet $20 to make $74
  • Parlay — Zak Cummings and Curtis Blaydes: Bet $50 to make $70.50
