Israel Adesanya stopped Robert Whittaker in the second round to become the undisputed middleweight champion at UFC 243.
Israel Adesanya remained undefeated improving to 18-0 by knocking out Robert Whittaker in the second round at UFC 243 to become the new middleweight champion.
What was the high point of the fight?
Whittaker was very aggressive in the first round, leaping in with his jab to set-up his looping overhand right. Adesanya showed great dexterity to avoid Whittaker’s attacks. getting out the way with fantastic head movement. Right at the end of the round. Adesanya dropped Whittaker with a big right hand, but the bell sounded right as he was about follow up with ground and pound.
Adesanya was starting to find his flow in the second round. Midway through the round, as both men were engaging in the middle of the octagon, Adesanya landed a right hook then a left hook clean on the chin that dropped Whittaker. and the newly crowned champ finished up with some ground and pound shots.
Where do these two go from here?
It was a fantastic win for Adesanya, who fought a phenomenal fight and looked excellent on the night. “The Last Stylebender” already called-out his next opponent in his post-fight interview. Top contender Paulo Costa who was cageside on the night.
Like Whittaker said in his post-fight interview. he is only 28-years old so “The Reaper” still has a long UFC future ahead of him. Maybe a fight against Kelvin Gastelum, who Whittaker was supposed to fight earlier this year anyway, is a good one to make next.
Watch it now, later or never?
It was a great performance by Adesanya, watch it now.
