Now that UFC 251 is in the books (full wrap up here), Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is gearing up for it’s next star-studded pay-per-view (PPV) event. Indeed, UFC 252 is set to go down on Aug. 15, 2020 in Las Vegas Nevada, and will feature a heavily-anticipated championship trilogy fight, as Heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic, faces former “champ-champ,” Daniel Cormier, in what will be “DC’s” final MMA fight.
Cormier has stated numerous times that this will be the final fight of his storied combat career. “DC” initially knocked out Miocic at UFC 226 in 2018 to win the 265-pound title, joining the exclusive “champ-champ” club in the process (see it). A year later, Stipe got his much-desired revenge — as well as his belt back — by knocking “DC” out at UFC 241 (highlights).
Now, the two big men will run it back one more time to see who the baddest man on the planet really is. Of course, should Cormier come out on top, the promotion will then have to turn right around and stage another title fight for the vacant strap. And don’t be too surprised if Miocic is one half of that equation.
But that’s neither her nor there at the moment, as the two still have to do the dance one more time to see how the future of the 265-pound weight class unfolds.
Speaking of Heavyweights, former division king Junior dos Santos will face off against fellow heavy-hitter, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, in the co-main event. Meanwhile, Pedro Munhoz and Frankie Edgar collide in Bantamweight action after their fight failed came to fruition on “Fight Island” due to COVID-19.
