Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC) next pay-per-view (PPV) venture will feature one of the biggest fights of the year, if not the history of the promotion. On October 24, 2020, Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim title holder, Justin Gaethje, will collide in a pivotal title unification match at UFC 254.
The title fight — which is set to go down inside Flash Forum on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates — will be “The Eagle’s” first since losing his father and trainer earlier this year to COVID-19. For Gaethje, it will be his return to action after utterly dominating Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 (see it), the promotion’s first event back after a lengthy hiatus due to the ongoing pandemic.
The fight means so much to both men for different reasons, as Gaethje is looking to becoming the official champion, while Khabib hopes to keep his undefeated (28-0, 12-0 UFC) record intact on his way to ending his storied combat career with a mint record.
Before the two men get it on in the center of the Octagon, the promotion will start pushing out as much promo material as it can to pump up the big ESPN+-streamed PPV card, which will also feature a Middleweight bout between Robert Whittaker and Jared Cannonier.
