UFC 255 video recap: Figueiredo submits Perez in first round

Deiveson Figueiredo successfully defended his flyweight title with a first round submission over Alex Perez at UFC 255.

Deiveison Figueiredo needed less then two minutes to make the first defense of his flyweight title at UFC 255 after submitting Alex Perez in the first round.

What was the high point of the fight?

Figueiredo opened up the first round by landing a hard body kick on Perez. Another kick from Figueiredo and Perez caught it looking for a takedown.

Figueiredo looked for a leg lock after the takedown attempt of Perez but the challenger survived and got himself into top position. However, Figueiredo latched onto a tight guillotine choke from the bottom and Perez had no other choice but to tap.

Where do both men go from here?

Its a very impressive first title defense for Figueiredo, who made quick work of a tough challenger in Perez. Talking in his post-fight interview, Figueiredo called for a fight with Brandon Moreno next. Either that or a rescheduled fight with Cody Garbrandt makes sense next for Figueiredo, but White says he’d like a quick turn around against Moreno next.

The loss to Figueiredo will be a tough one to take for the top flyweight contender Perez. It’s just his second defeat during his time in the UFC. A rematch with Joseph Benavidez or a fight with Askar Askarov makes sense next for Perez.
