Charles Oliveira’s impressive win streak continued as he defeated Tony Ferguson by unanimous decision in the co-main event of UFC 256.

What was the high point of the fight?

Both men exchanged some heavy strikes on the feet in the first round before Oliveira slammed Ferguson to the canvas. The Brazilian quickly gained full mount and started to work for submissions and land elbows and punches. At the end of the round Oliveira locked up an armbar but somehow Ferguson didn’t tap.

Oliveira continued to punish Ferguson on the ground in the second round. “El Cucuy” landed an illegal upkick as Oliveira was grounded. The third round was much the same as Oliveira took Ferguson down again and beat him up.

Where do both men go from here?

It’s not the comeback that Tony Ferguson would have wanted after his loss to Justin Gaethje back in May. Ferguson was shut down in every department by Oliveira. Maybe a rematch between Ferguson and Kevin Lee would be a good fight to make next.

Oliveira proves himself as a legitimate title contender with the win over Ferguson. “Do Bronx” is now in the mix for the next title shot, especially if the UFC puts together a fight for Khabib Nurmagomedov’s vacant title.
