Today’s show will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between former teammates, when champion Kamaru Usman meets top contender Gilbert Burns. The co-main will come in the women’s flyweight division, with Maycee Barber making her return from injury to face Alexa Grasso.
This post will cover the main event. The rest of the card will be covered in a separate post.
Today’s show is a standard PPV. There is one Fight Pass fight, which should kick off around 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT. Things will move to ESPN and ESPN+ for four more fights at 8pm ET, and then we’ll go over to PPV at 10pm ET as per the norm. Bobby Green vs. Jim Miller is off the card now due to Green’s backstage collapse after the weigh-ins.
Main Card (10pm ET)
Kamaru Usman vs. Gilbert Burns
Round 1 – Burns comes out with a right hook that misses. Two low kicks too. Body kick lands for Burns. Burns drops Usman with a right hook! Another big shot! WHOA! Usman resets. Head kick from Burns but Usman trips him up. Burns is inviting him to the groun but Usman isn’t messing with that. Jump kick off his back from Burns. Usman lands a right and a few kicks to the legs. Two kicks to the butt. More of the same. Usman is standing at range but still managing to beat Burns up. He’s notl liking it anymore and gets up. They trade jabs. Nice left from Burns as Usman lands a low kick. Another low kick. Burns with his own. Body kick from Usman. Straight right from Burns. Jab. Overhand right. Burns is hurting Usman. Two nice jabs from Usman though. High kick from Burns. He shoots but gets nowhere. Big combo from Burns. Step-in knee from Burns as Usman jabs. 10-9 Burns.
Round 2 – Burns brings immediate pressure. Nice jab from Usman. Again. Burns with a left hook and a body kick. They trade low kicks. Usman fades a kick and claps back with a left. Burns perseveres with the kicks. Usman looks for a thigh jab. Burns with a right hook that hurts Usman! Low kick from Burns but Usman cracks him with a jab. Usman almost drops Burns with a right hook! Burns is hurt! Another jab and right hook! Burns throws wildly but he’s obviously hurt. Usman switches stances three times in 20 seconds and is touching Usman with that jab. Burns with a low kick. Usman keeps coming. He drops Burns with a jab as he throws a low kick, then tells him to get up! This is awesome. Another jab. They trade big shots. Burns with a right hook. Usman with another jab. Low kick. Burns changes it up and looks for a takedown. Nada. 10-9 Usman.
Round 3 – Burns jabs the body and throws a low kick. Usman drops him with a left! He’s all over him! Burns tries to get up but Usman stuns him again and Burns is turtling! IT’S OVER! WHOA!
