Unlike most stateside athletic commissions, you have to lose a limb inside the Octagon or suffer a heart attack in the locker room to draw any sort of lengthy medical suspension from Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). So if you were hoping to see UFC interim heavyweight champion Ciryl Gane or even Derrick Lewis before the end of the year, there’s one less obstacle standing in their way.
TDLR also has a 1.9 star review on Google, which isn’t relevant to this post, but amusing nonetheless.
The longest medical suspension of the bunch belongs to Anderson dos Santos, who will remain sidelined until Oct. 17 pending a physician’s clearance. “Berinja” suffered a third-round knockout loss to Miles Johns at UFC 265 on Aug. 7 in Houston and appeared to suffer a leg injury prior to his in-cage demise.

Just a quick reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
