Stay up to date with what’s happening today with the UFC 281 PPV main card, which is going down from the storied Madison Square Garden in New York City.

This post is designated to cover the first-two bouts of the main card, including the swan song for a future UFC Hall of Famer. The UFC’s former lightweight champion, Frankie Edgar, will be competing in the final match of his legendary career against a streaking Chris Gutierrez.

Kicking off the main card will be a ranked lightweight looking to prevent an unranked fighter from cracking the top-15. The UFC’s #12 rated 155-pounder, Dan Hooker, will dance with a man known for his kneebars, Claudio Puelles.

The PPV main card is slated for 10:00pm ET/7:00pm PT, and can be purchased on ESPN+.

Main card:

Chris Gutierrez def. Frankie Edgar by KO at 2:01 of round 1: Bantamweight

Gutierrez connected early with a flush spinning backfist that stunned Edgar. The former champ seemed to recover really quickly, and went back to pressuring. Just as Edgar was coming forward, Gutierrez lifted up his knee and connected right on the jaw of Edgar. Frankie went out on impact, and that was that. In a classy move, Gutierrez elected to not followup.

Dan Hooker def. Claudio Puelles by TKO at 4:06 of round 2: Lightweight

Hooker came out launching kicks from range, mostly to the legs. Meanwhile, Puelles sat on the outside, trying to figure out how to get on the inside. He ended up hitting an Iminari roll to get the fight to the floor. He immediately started attacking a kneebar, keeping Hooker in all sorts of trouble. Ultimately, Hooker freed himself and stood back to his feet. Puelles started to butt scoot, but Hooker avoided it like the plague and went back from sniping from range.

Puelles botched several takedowns to start the second stanza, and Hooker just kept jousting from range. Puelles was getting desperate to get the fight to the floor, and Hooker’s takedown defense was holding up. Then, an angry front kick to the body hurt Puelles, who just flopped to his back. Hooker made him stand back up, and then delivered another kick to the body to drop Puelles and secure the TKO victory! What a performance!
