Say goodbye to ‘Knockout of the Night’ and ‘Submission of the Night.’ UFC officials announced a tweak to the promotion’s traditional post-fight bonus structure on Tuesday.
Beginning with Saturday’s upcoming UFC Fight Night 36 fight card in Brazil, both knockout and submission bonuses will instead be replaced by less restrictive ‘Performance of the Night’ bonuses, which will be awarded to fighters who display “the two best individual performances on the card,” according to a statement released by the UFC.
The change has no effect on the promotion’s traditional ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus.
All bonus amounts will remain set at $50,000.
‘Knockout’ and ‘Submission of the Night’ have long been a staple of the UFC’s post-fight bonus structure since its induction 2006.
The two sources of extra income now fade into retirement, with Anderson Silva (7) ranked ahead of the next KOTN clubhouse leader Vitor Belfort (5), and Joe Lauzon (6) narrowly edging out Nate Diaz (5) for mat supremacy.
