Gilbert Burns just stopped Demian Maia with strikes in the first round of the UFC Brasilia co-main event.
The UFC Brasilia co-main event just ended with the company’s #12 ranked welterweight, Gilbert Burns, just TKO’d the #5 ranked, Demian Maia, in the opening round. Maia came out pressuring, and was able to initiate a grappling exchange. Burns was able to escape the ground and make it back to his feet. That’s when he unleashed a crazy left hook that sat down Maia, and then sealed the deal with ground strikes. Burns is now 3-0 at 170-pounds, and in his post-fight interview, he called out former title challenger Colby Covington.
Maia started out pressuring behind his cross, and then shot in for the takedown. Burns used a leg lock to initiate a scramble, but got stuck against the fence. Maia took the back, but when he tried to transition to the mount, Burns escaped to his feet. Then BOOM! Burns uncorked a bomb of a left hand that dropped Maia! He raised his hands as if the fight was over, but then pounced with rapid fire ground strikes to secure the win.
