Check out Bloody Elbow’s recap of the UFC Fight Night 85 main event between Mark Hunt and Frank Mir from Brisbane, Australia on Saturday night.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 85 live from Brisbane, Australia on Saturday night, UFC heavyweight contender Mark Hunt picked up yet another walk-off knockout victory, this time over fellow veteran Frank Mir.
Hunt vs. Mir began with a feeling out process but just over the third minute mark of the first round, Hunt landed his signature right hand to knock out the former UFC heavyweight champion, and that was that.
What was the high point of this fight?
Well, really only one thing happened in this fight, and it was the finish. So, I suppose Hunt’s walk-off knockout was the high point?
Yeah, I’ll go with that.
Where do these two go from here?
I don’t see either challenging for the UFC title or defeating top competition ever again. Despite being 41 years old, Hunt has won two straight and still can win in devastating fashion, so I don’t see him stepping away from the sport off a couple wins. Hunt will probably get a step up in competition, another top 10 opponent, either on a pay-per-view card or in the main event of a future UFC Fight Night.
Mir should probably actually retire, though. Despite a recent “resurgence” with wins over Antonio Silva and Todd Duffee, I’m not confident he can hang with many UFC fighters at this stage of his career, especially with a weak chin. Plus, he doesn’t have anything left to prove — he is a former UFC titleholder and just tied the record for most UFC fights in history. He’s still a draw though and can make some good cash as a fighter, so if he keeps at it, I won’t be surprised.
Watch now, later, or never?
There’s nothing like a Mark Hunt walk-off knockout. Watch it now.
