What was the high point of the fight?
Hermansson started the fight extremely aggressively shooting in several takedowns and constantly keeping Cannonier on the backfoot. Eventually slamming him to the ground, “The Joker” almost wrapped up back control but Cannonier fought it of well.
At the start of the second round as Hermansson shot in for another takedown, Cannonier caught him with a big uppercut that sent The Swede to the canvas. After following up with some heavy ground and pound, Hermansson couldn’t defend himself and the fight was stopped.
Where do these two go from here?
The loss snaps a four-fight winning streak for Hermansson. Ranked at fifth at middleweight before this loss, Cannonier will inevitably jump above him in the rankings and “The Joker” will have to win a few more fights before he is back in title contention.
Cannonier remains undefeated at middleweight with the win over Hermansson, and his last three wins have all come against respectable names at middleweight. A fight against anyone in top-five at 185-pounds makes sense next for Cannonier.
