Jairzinho Rozenstruik continued his impressive UFC run with a KO over Alistair Overeem in the dying seconds of their fight at UFC Washington.
After being in control of most of the fight, Alistair Overeem was knocked out by Jairzinho Rozenstruik with just four seconds remaining in their main event fight at UFC Washington.
What was the high point of the fight?
Overeem landed a few good leg kicks on the feet as the fight started. Midway through the first round, he landed a foot sweep on Rozenstruik and begin to land some punches from side control on “The Reem” continued to stick to his gameplan in the third round. After landing some hard body kicks and left hands on Rozenstruik, he took him down yet again and got off some hammerfists before the buzzer.
Rozenstruik backed Overeem up against the fence in the fourth and finally started to land some good, flashy strikes of his own. Right at the end of the fifth round, after losing practically the whole fight, Rozenstruik landed a one-two after a sloppy takedown from Overeem. “The Reem” went straight down as Rozenstruik walked off and the referee stopped the fight with just four seconds left on the clock.
Where do they go from here?
The loss for Overeem snaps a two-fight winning streak, and it is now the fourteenth time he has lost by knockout in his lengthy career. Given the manner of the loss, it’s a hard one to take for “The Reem”, and he’ll likely by sidelined for a while before even thinking about fighting again.
It’s a fourth straight knockout win for Rozenstruik in the UFC after making his debut in February of this year. The Suriname-born heavyweight said he wants to return to the octagon in March or April of next year, and is targeting a fight against fellow hard hitter Francis Ngannou.
Watch it now, later or never?
The fight was bad, but it was a great KO by Rozenstruik, watch that. now.
