Check out the full-fight video highlights of Marina Rodriguez vs. Cynthia Calvillo from the UFC DC co-main event.
In the UFC DC co-main event, the company’s #9 ranked strawweight, Marina Rodriguez, and the #10 ranked, Cynthia Calvillo, fought to a majority draw. Rodriguez got going early, landing tons of volume and hurting Calvillo on a few occasions. Her knees were making Calvillo hesitant to close the distance for a takedown. Come round three, Calvillo rallied and scored herself an early takedown. That’s where she landed a plethora of ground strikes. Rodriguez ate a bunch of blows before finally making it back to her feet at the end of the round. It was a highly competitive bout with one major momentum swing.
Check out Tim Burke’s play-by-play from the third round of Marina Rodriguez vs. Cynthia Calvillo:
Round 3 – Rodriguez with a knee. Calvillo gets a takedown. She’s in half working a topside guillotine. Nothing there, but it allots her some space. Nice elbow. She’s working a kimura now. Big elbows to the body. She slips around and has full back contro. Big rights to the dome. She postures up and lands some more. Rodriguez initially just turtled, but she’s trying to get up and out. Calvillo adjusts and is in total control. She had wrist control and was landing big shot but lost it. Mount. Big shots! She’s landing huge undefended shots, but Rodriguez perseveres and gets up! That was big. Knee from Rodriguez. I’m not sure the judges would agree, but I’m going 10-8 Calvillo and a 28-28 draw.
Marina Rodriguez and Cynthia Calvillo go to a majority draw (29-28, 28-28, 28-28)
