All signs point to the UFC making its debut in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, later this year.
The promotion announced on Friday that it will hold a press conference on Wednesday, March 21, at Flames Central in downtown Calgary to “make a special announcement.” UFC president Dana White and director of Canadian operations Tom Wright will host the press conference, scheduled for 12:00 p.m. MDT.
It’s expected that the pair will announce the organization’s plans to hold a pay-per-view, presumably UFC 149, on Saturday, July 21, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary.
UFC 149 would mark the first UFC event held in Calgary or the province of Alberta. Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC, held WEC 49 in June 2010 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Thus far, Canada has hosted eight UFC cards: four in Montreal, two in Toronto and two in Vancouver.
