It’s nowhere near official but there is a good chance that UFC featherweight champ José Aldo (19-1) will defend his title against Kenny ‘Ken-Flo’ Florian (15-5) in October.
Florian recently defeated Aldo’s teammate, Diego Nunes earlier this month at UFC 131 by unanimous decision, making a success debut at 145 lbs. UFC President Dana White noted before the fight that the former lightweight contender would get a shot at the title if he was to beat Nunes at the Vancouver, Canada event.
During an interview with Tatame.com, Aldo said nothing is confirmed yet but he’s willing to fight anyone next. The Brazilian isn’t concerned with picking his next opponent as he is concerned about beating whoever White puts in front of him next.
Could you identify some flaws in Florian’s game which may lead you closer to a win?
I saw the fight as a fan, so it’s hard to get that clinical look. I watched it as a fan, I was cheering for Diego, so I couldn’t observe anything, I just saw its whole, especially since it was quick. Usually, when you’re watching as a fan, you don’t analyze it, you get yourself being caught by that feeling that you have, wanting your teammate to win. So I didn’t see it as a study, but we’re still waiting. When it’s confirmed, we’ll sit down and sees his strong and weak points to set a game plan. So, it they confirm this bout, do you believe Florian deserves to have a chance at the title or do you think it’s too soon for him?
It depends a lot. Every time Ultimate has an opponent for me, I’ll fight him. If it’s Kenny Florian, I’ll get there and do my job. I’m an employee, so the boss is Dana White, Lorenzo, Joe… I just have to get there and win, independently if the guy I’m fighting deserved to be there in the first place or not. It’s up to them to decide. I just want to add good things for Ultimate. So, if they tell me to fight Kenny, it’s ok by me. If they think he deserves it, I don’t see a problem. I’ll get there and do my best.
