On the UFC Fight Island 6 main card, Jessica Andrade finished Katlyn Chookagian with body punches, and Jimmy Crute knocked out Modestas Bukauskas with head punches, both in the first round.
The UFC Fight Island 6 main card is just about over, and the co-main event of the night witnessed the promotion’s former straight champion, Jessica Andrade, move up in weight to stop the UFC’s #1 ranked women’s flyweight, Katlyn Chookagian, with wicked body shots in the first-round. Shortly after one of her patented slams, Andrade ripped a right hook to the body that hurt Chookagian, and then connected with another one to put her down. There’s no doubt that Andrade is elite and the clear next challenger for the UFC’s flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko.
Before that, Jimmy Crute added to his highlight reel when he knocked out Modestas Bukauskas in just over two-minutes. It was a big right hand that wobbled Bukauskas, and then a right uppercut followed by a left hook that ended the fight. All-four of Crute’s UFC wins have come by way of finish as he remains to be must-see television. His post-fight interview included a respectful callout of Nikita Krylov, another known finisher.
Earlier on the main card, the welterweight division saw James Krause lean on his counter punching to take a unanimous decision over Claudio Silva. Krause remained composed throughout, making his opponent miss while coming back with sharp straight punches. In the most roundabout way, Krause has now won seven-straight official UFC fights under 185-pounds. Opening up the main card, Jonathan Martinez out-struck Thomas Almeida for the bulk of three-rounds to take a unanimous decision. Martinez took the center of the cage and went blow for blow with a veteran striker, and he was looking better than ever as he did it. Martinez is now 4-2 inside of the UFC.

Main card:
Jessica Andrade def. Katlyn Chookagian by TKO at 4:55 of round 1: (W) Flyweight
Andrade came out and pressed Chookagian up against the cage before achieving a takedown. Chookagian threatened with an armbar, and used it to scramble back to her feet. A big leg kick from Andrade dropped Chookagian for just a moment. On the feet and in the clinch, Chookagian scored with a lot of knees to the midsection. Then, Andrade lifted up Chookagian and slammed her down to the canvas. They stood up, and Andrade hurt Chookagian with a hook to the body. Chookagian began backpedalling and Andrade clipped her again with another body hook that dropped her. The referee was right on top of things to stop the fight and prevent any unnecessary damage.

Jimmy Crute def. Modestas Bukauskas by KO at 2:01 of round 1: Light Heavyweight
Crute pressed forward right away and pressed Bukauskas against the cage. He accidentally caught Bukauskas with a knee to the cup, causing a brief pause in the fight. Crute got right back to work, going right at Bukauskas. He then blasted off with a crazy overhand right that dazed Bukauskas, and then followed up with a sinister uppercut to keep him stunned, and then it was a left hook that dropped Modestas to seal the deal. Yikes!

James Krause def. Claudio Silva by unanimous decision (30-27 x3): Welterweight
Krause was quite elusive right out of the gate, making Silva miss several times. Krause was able to land a couple of stinging counter punches that registered, prompting Silva to close the distance. Silva tried to get put Krause on the ground, but the American was crafty enough to free himself. On the feet, Krause kept landing his counter punches as Silva was winging in with looping hooks. He even had Silva rocked and shooting a desperation takedown at the end of the round.
Krause continued to get the better of the striking in the seocnd round. He was using his footwork to make his foe miss, and then would come back with a laser straight to do damage. Silva failed with his attempts at getting the fight to the floor, too. By the end of the round, Silva did start to land a little bit more as he added in some leg kicks, but Krause was still peppering him with crosses.
The broadcast mentioned that Krause told his corner that he was having knee troubles going into the final round, although it didn’t seem to be affecting his output too much. Then, Silva started to really rip his leg kicks. He buckled Krause a coupe of times, but the American stood right back up and started firing his punches. Silva kept throwing, whether he missed or not, he was going to throw his strikes. Krause stayed more composed and picked his shots with better accuracy and landed much cleaner.

Jonathan Martinez def. Thomas Almeida by unanimous decision (30-27 x3): Featherweight
The fighters met in the middle and exchanged some feeler strikes. There were a lot of jabs and front kicks being thrown out there. Martinez took control of the center of the Octagon and made Almeida come to him. The jab and the up knee were regular weapons utilized by Martinez. Almeida seemed out of sorts and just couldn’t get anything going.
Almeida had a better start to the second round, despite bleeding fro, his left eye. He was able to score with some low-powered strikes as Martinez sat back and waited. In the clinch, Martinez landed a knee up the middle but Almeida landed a hook that knocked down Jonathan. It was a close round, and a much better round for Almeida than his first one.
Martinez stayed behind his jab in the final round. He built off of it with his southpaw left hand and he was cracking. Almeida showed heart, though, and kept throwing back. He landed a couple of clean combos, but Martinez kept landing himself and refused to let Almeida take over.
Qué buen primer round para Martinez, quien mete presión ante el veterano! #UFCFightIsland6 pic.twitter.com/EX6I7O2cfE
