Three fighters received extended medical suspensions in the aftermath of UFC Fight Night 28, the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) revealed to MMAFighting.com on Saturday.

Former Strikeforce champion Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, Jussier Formiga, and Kevin Souza were each handed 180-day medical suspensions due to injuries suffered during the event in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. All three can potentially fight sooner with physician clearance.

According to the CABMMA, both Ronaldo Souza and Formiga broke their right foot midway through the first round of battles against Yushin Okami and Joseph Benavidez, respectively. However “Jacare’s” coach told MMAFighting.com’s Guilherme Cruz that his fighter’s injury is actually less severe than reported and Souza will likely return to action sooner than expected.

Additionally, Kevin Souza broke his right hand on the way to collecting a split decision victory over Felipe Arantes on the night’s preliminary card.

18 additional fighters on the UFC Fight Night 28 card received precautionary medical suspensions, including light heavyweight headliners Glover Teixeira and Ryan Bader. Teixeira, who survived early trouble to earn a first-round knockout win, will be sidelined 30 days (with 21 days no contact), while Bader will be out 45 days (with 30 days no contact).
