Lyoto Machida highlighted a list of 24 fighters to incur medical suspensions in the wake of UFC Fight Night 36, according to information released by the Comissao Atletica Brasileira de MMA (CABMMA) on Tuesday.
Machida, who defeated Gegard Mousasi via unanimous decision in the night’s main event, received, at least potentially, the most severe sentence on the list. The former UFC light heavyweight champion and current top middleweight contender is expected to be sidelined for up to 180 days, or until cleared by a physician after taking an X-ray of his left foot.
Machida revealed to MMAFighting.com that he believed he hurt his foot during the third round of his bout against Mousasi, however X-rays taken on Monday led doctors to conclude that, although it may be swollen, the appendage is not broken.
Apart from Machida, all 23 other fighters to compete at UFC Fight Night 36 received precautionary medical suspensions for injuries incurred during Saturday night’s event, which took place at the Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Brazil.
