This is the UFC Fight Night 42 live blog for Erik Perez vs. Bryan Caraway, a bantamweight bout at Saturday night’s UFC event at the Tingley Coliseum in Albuquerque, N.M.
Perez, who has won three of his four UFC fights, will face Caraway, who also has won three of his four UFC fights, on the main card.

Round 1: Raul Porrata is the referee. Both fighters open orthodox and a semi-attempt from Caraway for a takedown goes nowhere. Twice. Perez throwing lots of wild strikes, but nothing is landing. Perez backs Caraway against the fence and the American threatens with a guillotine, but uses it to stand instead. Caraway scores a takedown and as Perez goes down, scoots to the back and attempts to sink a choke. Perez manages to unhook one of Caraway’s hooks and turn into him. Another guillotine attempt from Caraway used as an opportunity to stand. Perez scores with a jumping switch knee and jab. Caraway briefly scores a takedown, but Perez fights it the entire way and manages to stand.

Round 2: Perez nearly scores a takedown, but it’s Caraway’s use of the underhook to immediately reverse it and come on top. From side control, Caraway moves to mount and then Perez’s back with a body triangle. In transition, Caraway slaps on the rear naked choke that’s very deep and being held with a gable grip. Perez tries to fight it, but can’t get it.
