Hell yeah.
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently booked an outstanding welterweight match up pitting Matt Brown against Demian Maia for the upcoming UFC Fight Night 87 mixed martial arts (MMA) event, expected to take place on May 14, 2016 in Brazil.
UFC senior vice president Giovani Decker (via MMA Fighting) announced the pending showdown on Monday.
Brown (20-13) hasn’t been seen since his first-round submission win over Tim Means at UFC 189 last July. “The Immortal” has been dealing with injuries that at one point, were severe enough to boot him from the promotion’s return trip to Mexico.
Now he’s back … but is he better than ever?
There will be no margin for error against the streaking Maia (22-6), who is now the winner of four straight inside a very crowded 170-pound division. The Brazilian was last seen schooling Gunnar Nelson at UFC 194 just last month and it’s not unrealistic to think he’s one or two wins away from a welterweight title shot.
So, who is the contender and who is the pretender?
UFC Fight Night 87 will air stateside on FOX Sports 1, featuring a sizzling middleweight headliner that has serious title implications in the 185-pound division, as Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza bang it out for another look at Luke Rockhold.
