Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is all set to return to Canada this weekend (Sat., June 17, 2016), as the promotion with UFC Fight Night 89, which is set to pop off from The Arena at TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
Headlining the Fox Sports 1-televised event is an intriguing Welterweight bout which will see hometown favorite Rory MacDonald attempt to stake his claim as the rightful contender in the division when he faces off against former sparring partner and all-around striking machine, Stephen Thompson.
For “Red King,” it’s a chance to gain some leverage in his upcoming negotiations with UFC, as he is set to become a free agent after this bout. For “Wonderboy,” he can jump straight to the top of the title line if he can manage to take out the longtime veteran.
Also on the card, Donald Cerrone will continue his assault on the 170-pound division when he squares off against another local favorite, Patrick Cote, in the co-main event of the evening.
