We’ve got some good news to report on the health status of UFC featherweight Matt Grice, who was badly injured in a car accident earlier this month. According to UFC Tonight, Grice has begun breathing on his own, showing movement in his arms and legs, responding to verbal cues, and he has even given thumbs-up signals to family members. The 32-year-old Oklahoma City police officer and father of two young daughters has been taken off sedation medication, and doctors also removed his cranial pressure monitor, suggesting that Grice’s condition has stabilized.

On the evening of September 8th, Grice was stopped at a red light in Shawnee, Oklahoma, when another car slammed into him from behind. Grice suffered significant head injuries that required emergency brain surgery. A donation fund set up by his family has already collected over $21,000. If you’d like to chip in a few bucks, go here and do that.
