Jack Hermansson defeated Ronaldo Souza by decision in the UFC Fort Lauderdale main event.

UFC Fort Lauderdale is officially in the books. The top of the billing saw the promotion’s #10 ranked Jack Hermansson pull out a unanimous decision over the #4 ranked middleweight Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. This makes four-straight wins for Hermansson, three by way of finish, and in his post-fight interview declared his thirst for UFC gold.

A bit of a feeling out process took place across the first two-minutes of the fight, but as soon as each fighter landing a right hand, the fight picked right up. Hermansson landed a quick flurry before jumping on an extremely tight guillotine. Jacare made all the right moves to make it out of the near-sub and return to his feet. Hermansson pumped his jab, disrupting his opponent for the remainder of the round.

Hermansson found top position early in the second round off of catching one of Jacare’s kicks. A lot of clock was eaten up by Hermansson as he looked to dish out short shots from inside of Jacare’s guard. Jacare was unable to threaten with a submission, let alone return to his feet for the rest of the round.

Jacare started strong in the third round, pressing Hermansson with his boxing. The more the round progressed, the more pressure Jacare started to apply. Hermansson began shooting for takedowns, but Jacare was having none of it. Jacare kept finding success with the left hook to the body followed by the right hand over the top.

Hermansson shot in right away to kick off the fourth frame, but ate a knee to the face for his troubles. Then, Hermansson unloaded a lengthy boxing flurry, but only connected with a couple of the shots. Hermansson continued to pour it on, relying more on his volume where as Jacare was leaning on his power.

Hermansson closed the distance right away in the fifth frame, but was unable to get the takedown. Jacare marched forward, but struggled to put his strikes together, especially with Hermansson pumping his jab. Just when Jacare started to land, Hermansson snagged a takedown to finish up the round on top.
