The red-hot Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Middleweight division will see two of its most fearsome finishers duke it out on ESPN+ from inside BB&T Center in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., this Saturday (April 27, 2019) when Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza faces Jack Hermansson. In UFC Fight Night 150’s co-main event, Greg Hardy looks to erase the memory of his disastrous Octagon debut (details) at the expense of Dmitrii Smoliakov. The rest of the main card includes some guaranteed donnybrooks featuring the likes of Alex Oliveira, Ion Cutelaba and John Lineker, among others.

This one’s got loads of potential for both extreme violence and profit. Let’s have a look:

What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 149?

I’m not too hung up about the Rafael Fiziev bet falling through — I acknowledged that he was a debuting fighter going up against a dangerous knockout artist in Magomed Mustafaev. I really am massively disappointed in Gadzhimurad Antigulov, though. I knew he wasn’t much of a threat on the feet, but walking into the same uppercut three consecutive times is a bit much.

UFC Fight Night 150 Odds For The Undercard:

Takashi Sato (-220) vs. Ben Saunders (+180)
Augusto Sakai (-140) vs. Andrei Arlovski (+120)
Virna Jandiroba (-130) vs. Carla Esparza (+110)
Gilbert Burns (-250) vs. Mike Davis (+210)
Jim Miller (-140) vs. Jason Gonzalez (+120)
Angela Hill (-400) vs. Jodie Esquibel (+325)
Court McGee (-160) vs. Dhiego Lima (+140)

Thoughts: I’m liking the looks of Augusto Sakai, Carla Esparza and Court McGee.

The only wins in Andrei Arlovski’s last 10 fights came against Junior Albini, who sleepwalked through the fight, and Stefan Struve, who is terrible. Sakai is a whole different beast, a physical monster of a Heavyweight with crushing power and a surprisingly robust gas tank. He’s not going to throw the fight away through lack of volume, nor is he easy to take down. Arlovski’s only advantage here is speed, and it’s been years since that’s been a factor. Sakai can take his best shot and shut down the wrestling “The Pitbull” has been leaning on in recent years, so bet big on the Brazilian.

I get why Esparza is habitually underrated, but that doesn’t make it accurate. She’s a far better striker than Jandiroba and has the wrestling prowess to shut down the Brazilian’s lethal top game. There’s also the matter of Jandiroba taking this fight on short notice, which complicates what’s already an extremely difficult style match up for her. Though Esparza isn’t a true division elite anymore, she’s still a scary wrestler with a knack for coming up big with her back against the wall.

Even after all this time, Dhiego Lima remains incredibly fragile and incredible easy to take down. Those are terrible issues to have against McGee, who throws plenty of volume and constantly threatens with his wrestling. Lima needs the finish, and considering McGee has never been submitted and only got knocked out by a ludicrously hard puncher in Santiago Ponzinibbio, that’s unlikely. McGee seems like a safe investment.

UFC Fight Night 150 Odds For The Main Card:

Ronaldo Souza (-200) vs. Jack Hermansson (+170)
Greg Hardy (-335) vs. Dmitrii Smoliakov (+275)
Alex Oliveira (-185) vs. Mike Perry (+160)
Glover Teixeira (-115) vs. Ion Cutelaba (-105)
John Lineker (-130) vs. Cory Sandhagen (+110)
Roosevelt Roberts (-410) vs. Thomas Gifford (+330)

Thoughts: Ion Cutelaba is worth a look, though Glover Teixeira is still dangerous enough to make it a risk. The Brazilian’s chin is well past its sell-by date and Cutelaba packs some gnarly power in those hands, not to mention solid takedown defense and scrambling ability. Cutelaba’s got enough of a chance to score an early knockout to be worth the investment.

UFC FIGHT NIGHT 150 BEST BETS:

  • Single bet — Augusto Sakai: Bet $70 to make $50
  • Single bet — Carla Esparza: Bet $40 to make $44
  • Single bet — Court McGee: Bet $80 to make $50
  • Single bet — Ion Cutelaba: Bet $42 to make $40

It’s not the most stacked event in the world, but that main card just screams ultra-violence. See you Saturday, Maniacs!
