Former UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar was arrested for DUI in Las Vegas on Sunday.
Former UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar, best known for his memorable clash with Forrest Griffin in The Ultimate Fighter season 1 finale, has been booked on a felony DUI charge after he was reportedly speeding and driving erratically on Interstate-15 in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday. TMZ first reported the news, and here are additional details from Las Vegas ABC affiliate KTNV.
Troopers got a report around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, of a red Cadillac CTS moving at speeds above 90 mph and making unsafe lane changes on Interstate 15, NHP said in a statement.
While troopers were responding, dispatchers got calls that multiple drivers had surrounded and stopped the Cadillac on southbound I-15, about 10 miles north of the resort corridor.
A trooper arrived on scene and found people had been physically restraining the driver, identified as Bonnar, who appeared to be incoherent, according to NHP.
Bonnar woke up while the trooper tried to cuff him and allegedly resisted before the trooper and people were able to restrain him.
The trooper allegedly smelled alcohol and noticed signs of intoxication in the driver, identified as Bonnar. Medical staff responded and said there was nothing medically wrong with him.
TMZ also noted that one of the citizens who restrained Bonnar was armed. He has since been charged with “DUI (3rd offense), resisting an officer and traffic offenses.”
The 41-year-old (15-9) hasn’t fought since losing a split decision to Tito Ortiz at Bellator 138 in November 2014. He was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2013 alongside Forrest Griffin, who beat him by split decision in the TUF 1 Finale, considered to be one of the most important fights in UFC history. Bonnar had announced his retirement in 2012 after suffering a TKO loss to Anderson Silva, followed by a positive drug test for drostanolone.
While Bonnar’s MMA career is seemingly over, in more recent times he’s dabbled in professional wrestling.
