Former Strikeforce heavyweight champ, and current UFC top contender Alistair Overeem, faces one count of misdemeanor battery over an incident that happened during the New Year’s weekend and must appear in a Las Vegas courtroom next month.

The police report stated, as noted by the Las Vegas Review-Journal (lvrj.com), that the incident occurred at the Wynn Casino and that “Overeem pushed or shoved a women in the face, ‘causing her to stagger back.’”

‘The Demolishion Man’s’ attorney, David Chesnoff, says he plans to “vigorously defend” his client’s innocence.

“I have advised Alistair not to comment on this matter, and that we will do our talking in the court. It should be noted that Alistair was not arrested; he was summoned to court. There are two sides to this story, and we intend on vigorously defending this as Alistair maintains his innocence.”

That particular weekend, Overeem had won his Octagon debut by finishing former champ Brock Lesnar via first round TKO in the main event of UFC 141.
