Glover Teixeira has received a six-month medical suspension following his TKO win over Anthony Smith.
Glover Teixeira beat Anthony Smith to a bloody pulp in the UFC Jacksonville main event this past Wednesday, but the Brazilian has received a longer maximum medical suspension than his opponent, per the Florida State Boxing Commission.
Teixeira received an initial six-month medical suspension, whereas Smith, who lost two teeth and suffered a potential facial fracture, is suspended for just 60 days (pending additional testing).
Teixeira, who finished Smith in the fifth round, claims to have suffered a hand injury in the third round but doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about. The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger was required to submit an X-ray following the fight.
“My (right) hand is a bit swollen and they asked for a X-ray,” Teixeira told MMA Fighting’s Guilherme Cruz on Friday. “I hurt my hand in the third round, but I think it’s just a finger. I don’t think it’s serious. I’ll get the X-ray done next week, but I’m hoping it’s just a finger so I can come back quickly.”
