Glover Teixeira caps off a four-fight win streak at UFC Jacksonville against Anthony Smith.

Since his decision loss to Corey Anderson in 2018, Glover Teixeira piled on one win after another and never looked back. On Wednesday, the 40-year-old competitor capped off a four-fight win streak with an upset fifth-round TKO win over Anthony Smith.

What was the high point of the fight?

Smith did a solid job keeping Teixeira at bay, landing punch combinations and teep kicks. But as soon as he started slowing down when fatigue kicked in, the Brazilian began capitalizing and landing his own combinations by the fence.

Teixeira beat up on Smith during the last three rounds, mixing up his ground-and-pound and submission attacks. After finally seeing enough late in the final round, referee Jason Herzog stepped in to stop the fight.

Where do these two fighters go from here?

If I were to play matchmaker, I’d still be giving both of these guys top-five opponents. Smith may have to fight another contender to earn himself a shot, so I’d let him redeem himself against Thiago Santos.

And if Glover intends to climb back to title contention, I’d match him up again with Corey Anderson.

Watch it now, later, or never?

Save for Teixeira’s futile submission attempts, this fight was action-packed from start to finish. I’d say watch it now.
