For the second time in as many events, Ian Entwistle has been pulled from a UFC card at the last-minute.
UFC bantamweight Ian Entwistle missed weight badly for Saturday’s UFC Fight Night: Anderson vs. Manuwa card in London, coming in at 139 lbs. While his fight with Brett Johns was still expected to take place at a catchweight as of Friday, MMAjunkie confirmed with UFC officials that Entwistle has been pulled from the event. They also received this quote from Johns.
“Obviously I’m very disappointed that my fight has been pulled due to Entwistle being unable to compete on medical grounds,” Johns told MMAjunkie. “My camp has been absolutely fantastic, my preparation has been better than ever, and it’s a shame that I didn’t get to show the dominant performance that I know would of resulted in a comprehensive first-round stoppage.
“Competing at this level is tough, and it’s not for everyone, so I wish Ian the best outside of the UFC. Thank you to all my supporters, Suckerpunch and Brian Butler – and thank you to the UFC and the UFC staff for their help over the past few hours.”
This is the second time that Entwistle has been pulled from a UFC show just before fight night. At last October’s UFC 204 in Manchester, Entwistle fell ill during the weight cutting process, never made the weigh-ins, and his bout with Rob Font was called off.
UFC London will now proceed with 12 fights. There’s no word yet on the new start time for the preliminary card, which was originally set for 1:30 PM ET/10:30 AM PT.
