Checking out the betting odds for an up and coming top-ranked featherweight Fight Night bout between Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar.
The UFC’s former featherweight champ, Max Holloway, has been slated to face the promotion’s #6 ranked 145-pounder, Calvin Kattar, at UFC’s Fight Night event on January 16, 2020. Naturally, betting odds have surfaced for this upcoming high-stakes matchup, with “Blessed” opening up as a slight favorite to “The Boston Finisher’s” small plus line… but that tightness didn’t last for very long.
Online gambling site BetOnline.ag originally set the odds for this matchup with Holloway at -135 and Kattar at +115, but the betting public quickly jumped all over that causing a bit of a shift. Now, Holloway is being offered up at a more strongly favored line of -185, and Kattar can be acquired at a higher underdog value than before at +160. If Max was your choice, then your tardiness will now cost you some more juice.
Holloway is looking to rebound after losing his championship belt to Alexander Volkanovski, and then falling short in their immediate rematch. Regarded by many as the featherweight G.O.A.T. Max still seems to be at the top of his game. His experience, endless gas tank, volume-based striking prowess, and frankly his sheer toughness are great reasons why he opened up as a slight favorite over Calvin.
Kattar has some slick boxing and quite a bit of power in his hands, knocking out four of his six UFC victims. His only two promotional blemishes came as decision losses to Renato Moicano in 2018, and then Zabit Magomedsharipov last November. There is a ton of up-side to Kattar, but he hasn’t produced a body of work, just yet, that would give cause to favor him over the former featherweight king. That’s not to say that Calvin won’t win, rather that the opening odds were appropriate and super-necessary.
