Their first fight was a pick’em, but former champ Petr Yan is strongly favored over new champion Aljamain Sterling in likely rematch.
At UFC 259 this past weekend, the promotion’s bantamweight belt changed hands on a disqualification. The former title holder, Petr Yan, blasted his challenger with an illegal knee late in the fourth round, bringing an abrupt halt to the fight. This was the first time in UFC history that a championship was won/lost by DQ, and an immediate runback seems likely. Betting odds have surfaced for this potential rematch, with the former champion strongly favored over Aljo.
Online gambling site Sportsbetting.ag has Yan opening up as a strong -250 betting favorite, with a winning $100 bet bringing back a total payout of $140. The newly crowned champ Sterling is listed with an opening underdog line of +210, with a $100 wager potentially returning a lump sum of $310. The website states that this fight must happen in 2021 for action.
Yan and Sterling were at pick’em lines for their first match, with Yan around -111 and Aljo being found anywhere from -110 up to +105. We got almost four complete rounds of these two competing against each other, so we have a good idea what to expect in the next one — aside from potential disqualifying blows. Sterling had a strong start, but Petr was surging in the championship rounds as Aljamain was slowing down. These opening odds seem appropriate.
